port sippers

small port sippers (set of 4)

these modern day port sippers are crafted from durable, hand blown glass and are a wonderful conversation piece at any function or get-together.

$49.99

the fine art of sipping fortified wines, especially in the evening, is greatly enhanced when a modern port sipper is used.

they date back to 17th century Europe, when port sippers were made from a ceramic material and designed specially to allow the user to sip the liquid from the bottom of the port sipper. This made sure the port had no chance to oxidise.

the flavours of fortified wines like port or liqueurs are enhanced, making the sipping process as close as possible to what the maker intended.

wine aerator

5 piece decantus wine aerator

Classic Wine Aerator Set contains the upgraded wine aerator featuring two handles for easy grip and handling while pouring. The five piece set includes: Decantus Deluxe Wine Aerator, heavy base, velvet storage pouch, sediment screen and cleaning brush.

$

the decantus wine aerator utilizes the Bernoulli effect where the reduced pressure of a stream of fluid (wine) draws an air flow through diagonal thin tubes inside

the wider opening on top and larger liquid capacity of the top reservoir bowl makes pouring much easier

wine travels faster through the decantus without a whirlpool effect, because of the vertical planar insert. The “froth” from decantus has finer bubbles giving smoother aeration than any other aerator on the market

the decantus deluxe has some serious curves. Sinuous and graceful, it has two handles for easy handling while pouring

Whisky Galore Tasting

April 14th, 7pm we were very excited to be host to our very first whisky tasting!

The talented Michael F. Fraser Milne came down from Christchurch to host this event. Michael is from the Strathspey/Strathbogie area of Scotland and has been involved with whisky in some way for most of his life.

With the cafe full of enthusiasts, Michael entertained the locals with his knowledge of whiskys and his delightful manner.

On the night a case of mystery whisky was auctioned off, with all proceeds going to the Red Cross appeal, for Canterbury.

Jim Beggs was the winner of the auction and was very pleased with his case of whisky (even with the liquefaction on the box) and that he will drink over a period of time, responsibly!

Thank you to everyone who made it on the night, it was a very memorable night and one that we wish to do again very soon.
